Common Questions

  • Fasting is a simple way of creating space to listen to God by temporarily giving something up and in it’s place - spending more intentional time with the Lord. It’s not about earning God’s favour or proving spiritual maturity, but about increasing our attentiveness to His presence and leading through prayer.

  • Do I have to fast food?

While scripturally speaking - fasting is exclusively connected to food. Some people choose to fast meals or entire days.

However, we recognize for a variety of reasons, fasting from food may not be an option for you. You may thoughtfully consider other aspects of your life that take up your time and attention - perhaps that’s social media, online shopping, sports, your phone or other distractions.

A great question to ask yourself as you seek to create space for God to speak is “what things in my life that take up “mindless space?”.

We encourage you to choose a fast that is appropriate for your season of life and that creates space for prayer and reflection.

  • That’s completely okay. This week is designed to be accessible and guided, whether prayer feels familiar or new to you. There’s no “right” way to participate — the goal is simply to show up with openness and honesty before God.

  • Not at all. While we invite you to join us in person if you’re able, the prayer guide is designed so you can fully participate from home at a time that works for you. We’re seeking God together, even when we’re not all in the same room.

  • Each morning will include Scripture, guided prayer, space for silence, and simple worship. These gatherings are intentionally unhurried and accessible — no experience required.

  • On Saturday, we won’t gather at the church. Instead, we’re inviting everyone to pray where they live by walking their neighbourhoods and praying for friends, families, schools, and neighbours. This is a way of physically turning our prayers outward and asking God how we might love and engage those around us.

  • You’re still very welcome to participate. Join in as you’re able — even one day of intentional prayer is meaningful. This week isn’t about perfection, but about creating space for God to work in our lives.

  • This week is open to anyone who wants to seek God through prayer. Whether Forest City is your home church or you’re exploring faith, you’re welcome to participate at whatever level feels right for you.

  • Stillness - Quiet your heart

  • Scripture - Read slowly

  • Guided Prayer - Pray with Focus

  • Listening - Sit in silence

  • Obedience - Carry it into your day
